Problem with permalinks

When I create a new page, rather than following my settings (i.e. use page name), the permalink slug ends up being something like "2-3" or "2-4".

If I try to input a custom permalink slug, the page content disappears and when I try to open Elementor I get an error message stating: "Sorry, the content area was not found in your page. You must call 'the_content' function in the current template, in order for Elementor to work on this page."

I tried refreshing my permalinks and creating a new page without success. If I revert back to the original "2-3" slug, the page contents and Elementor work again.

What is causing this issue and how can I fix it (i.e. have the correct permalinks)?

    Thanks,
    Erik

    Bonjour Erik,

    Merci,

    Erik

You seem to have some weird code that is not genuine with our theme in your theme function.php

    https://d.pr/i/gEorqt

please test with the orginal/unmodified theme code and see if it works.

We cant reproduce your issue with the original code on our local server.

    Thanks,

    Hi Maxime,

This seems to be a malware attack, which I'm looking into now.

    Thanks,

    Code is still there: https://d.pr/i/YdZ05j

please check with your web hosting why the code always reappear. My guess is that your website has a virus, but your hosting provider is the best person to tell exactly whats wrong here.

For now, from what I see is that function.php of your theme file is not our original theme files (and I have not check all your other theme files..perhaps other files are not genuine has well).

    Thanks,

    wp_vcd is definitely a hack.

look for wp_vcd on google:  https://www.google.com/search?ei=UUJLXa2LFsO85gKmxYMQ&q=wp_vcd&oq=wp_vcd&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0l2j0i30l3.12263.12263..12794...0.0..0.69.69.1......0....2j1..gws-wiz.......0i71.tKcRBHEe-1c&ved=&uact=5

try to run wordfence plugin at least and check with your webhost to find out the security hole.

    Thanks,

    Hi Maxime,

Yes, my site was indeed infected with wp_vcd. However, this doesn't seem to be the cause of the bug. I scanned with WordFence, cleaned manually, and reinstalled the theme files, however the bug is still occurring.

Any other ideas why this is happening? Worst case I'll start over with a clean install, however I'd prefer to avoid that if possible...

    Thanks,
    Erik

    Hi Maxime,

I did a clean install and still get the same issue. Sending the login credentials for the alternative install.

Try with another server. You are the only user out of our 20 000 user who have this issue. I'm sure that the issue is your server.

I switched the site to Cloudways as you recommended (great suggestion) and the problem is still occurring.

I tried to fix the problem directly but it persists.

    https://docs.elementor.com/article/56-content-area-not-found?utm_source=editor-panel&utm_medium=wp-dash&utm_campaign=learn

I ended up leaving the slugs as they were (e.g. 2-3) and using Permalink Manager. Not ideal to use an extra plugin, though at least now it works.

Also, please try to install Classic Editor plugin. I think this will fix your permalink issue.
