all the musicians i know want spotify since they actually get paid for the streams ...i LOVE your player that is why i signed up the one that lives in the footer and is persistent ...BUT .....i'm not allowed to use it because they don't get paid for streaming mp3s locally ...we need spotify ...i read a little of their API docs ...seems it should be possible to pull in streams from them into a player is that correct?  what do you guys think about this ?

    Hi there,

Currently, It's not possible (unless im not aware of) to play spotify tracks in a custom audio player. To play spotify tracks on a website, you must embed the spotify player on your page (the look and feel of the player will be the spotify one).

Also, be aware that if you embed a spotify player on your site and the listener has not a premium spotify account, he will be limited in 30 seconds preview songs If im correct which sucks in my opinion. Thats why not a lot of people use spotify to play the songs on their website.

    Thanks,

Look interesting but I never experienced it.

Any example of what people have done with it? Seems that you have Spotify's written permission to use the SDK and get the api key. This will be quiet hard for our user to get the key as it may come quiet technical.

I will keep an eye on it tho

    Thanks,

I haven’t just found it today …..from what i read i believe what they are saying is that your company would have to get permission from Spotify because you’d be using it in a commercial product not your customers like me …I’m sure they would ok it as you are the perfect example of who they are developing for …Sonaar using it encourages Spotify usage and streams …..why wouldn’t they want you to integrate use their API ?

to your other point the ultimate solution would be to have spotify and apple music streaming on your persistent sonaar player ...therefore its a streaming player not an mp3 player .....this way if you use apple music you can stream it right from your player ...if you use spotify you stream it from your player ......you let the user choose once (set a cookie) that they want to use spotify on the player or apple music

every month that goes by chances are a users has one of these services or they wouldn't be on a music site ...the smaller and smaller percentage that don't have an account still hear the 30 second preview you mentioned

Thanks for your input. Of course this would be an awesome feature to have. However, developing this kind of feature for spotify might be quiet challenging (we need to learn the spotify SDK, develop the player and do extensive QA to make sure it works with every browser and also the mobile devices. We can do it, but for my experience, it would require at least a 40 hours of work before coming with something solid.

Ill add this to our roadmap and if we have more and more user requesting it, we will change its RM's priority.

    Thanks Joe
