Instead of showing the created date on a blog post, is there a way to show the last updated date?

I tried following the instructions here (https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/display-the-last-updated-date-of-your-posts-in-wordpress/) to modify the functions file but it didn't seem to work.
