I know you told me that at the moment the popup does not support the use of shortcodes for security reasons.
Please, I beg you to fix this security issue and implement this feature as soon as possible, as many possibilities are being missed with this issue. What would make this popup really powerful is that it could be used with shortcodes to, for example, preview an embedded PDF document, a video, or any other functionality that a shortcode allows.
I'm trying to put an iframe in the popup code and inside the shortcode, but it's impossible, it doesn't work.
I don't know how this security issue could be fixed, but as I say, please, I beg you to fix it as soon as possible in a future version of the plugin.
You see, it's not a specific problem, it's just that right now the popup doesn't support shortcodes, it doesn't work with any of them, which is, from my point of view, the most convenient way to take advantage of it.
Of course I could create a page in WordPress where I put the shortcode, and then put an iframe in the popup's HTML code putting this page that I just created as the source, but it's a lot of work to simply show an embedded PDF, a video, an image gallery or any other functionality you can imagine that allows you to directly make a shortcode. Imagine that each episode of the podcast had a page like this, in the end it would have dozens of pages, one for each episode of the podcast.
As I say, it is not a specific case, it is simply asking you, please, for a future version you can solve the security problems that you mention and that the popup window can interpret shortcodes, which as I say is what is interesting and where it will really show its potential.
after some attempts on my side, you will need to check directly with the author of the plugin PDF Viewer directly because I don't know why it does not work. It works with many many shortcodes, but this one does not work. Perhaps try to embed it with a different plugin
Supporting third-party plugins is a bit out of the scope of our support I'm afraid.

Could you please provide me access to your wp-admin and I will gladly check the issue you have.

Standard pop-ups should work.
It's why I want to have access to investigate why it does not work in your case.
Thanks,

Oops. I mean standard shortcode should work in popup...
